The Commonwealth Secretariat will host a gathering of high commissions, businesses, academia, women’s rights campaigners and civil society representatives on 2 December to look at and discuss actions and inspirations towards ending violence against women and girls in its 56 member countries.
Gathering soon after International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls, observed on 25 November, the event seeks to raise awareness, measure progress and promote effective strategies aimed at ending a scourge that affects one in three women at least once within their lifetime.
The event features panel discussions and presentations on practical interventions to end violence against women and girls, including the Commonwealth Says NO MORE campaign, as well as examines the role of businesses and civil society in accelerating efforts towards women’s protection. The purpose of the discussions will be to showcase cross-sectoral good practices that could be replicated in other countries with similar contexts.
