In this virtual event, speakers will discuss digital agriculture and digital fisheries, especially during the global health pandemic. The event builds on the outcomes of the 4th Supply-Side Connectivity Cluster meeting of the Commonwealth Connectivity Agenda held in November 2020 which called for a focus on smart agriculture for sustainable development.
Several megatrends are shaping the future of societies, economies and the environment, and changing the nature of business activities and human interaction across the world. Among these trends are technological advances, including digitalisation.
While digitalisation is seen as a game changer in the quest for transforming smallholder agriculture and fisheries in the developing world, there must be a common understanding and unified approach to the deployment of digitalisation in Commonwealth countries. Digital innovations, digital technologies and digital solutions are all unique concepts and terms that should be applied appropriately to harness their full potential within the agriculture and fisheries sectors.
The main goal of this event is to begin a new conversation about digital agriculture and digital fisheries, especially during the global health pandemic. It also builds on the outcomes of the 4th Supply-Side Connectivity Cluster meeting of the Commonwealth Connectivity Agenda held in November 2020 which called for a focus on smart agriculture for sustainable development.
Two expert dialogue sessions will be organised on 2 March to:
- Review initial frameworks for digital agriculture and digital fisheries in the Commonwealth
- Begin an open discussion on the implications of these frameworks for the development of an Index for Digital Agriculture and Fisheries in member countries
