Jamaica

Jamaica is a large island in the Caribbean Sea. It lies 630 kilometres north-east of mainland Central America. Its close neighbours are Haiti, to the east, and Cuba, to the north. There are mountains and plateaus to the interior and east of the island. It is surrounded by coastal plains, with sandy beaches and many natural bays.

Trade

The Secretariat helped Jamaica develop a Maritime Hub Strategy. This involved analysis of bunkering (the supplying of fuel for ships) and dry docking (a narrow basin that is flooded to allow a load to be floated in, then drained to allow that load to rest on a dry platform). Jamaica attracted US$20 million in investment as a result.
