Commonwealth governments will convene in Birmingham, UK, for the 10th Commonwealth Sports Ministers Meeting (10CSMM) on 27th July 2022. The meeting, convened by the Commonwealth Secretariat and hosted by the host nation’s government, is held every two years alongside the Commonwealth Games or Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The primary objective of 10CSMM is to advance Commonwealth consensus and co-operation on key sport policy issues across the Commonwealth.
Under the theme Creating an Inclusive and Resilient Sport Sector; enhancing the contribution of sport to the SDGs, Ministers will address the contribution sport can make to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with an emphasis on proactively responding to sports’ human rights and equality issues as nations build back following the Covid-19 pandemic.
The meeting will also discuss how investment in sport can be leveraged to boost equitable development and will showcase examples of innovation in the sector.
The proposed agenda for 10CSMM has been drafted in consultation with the UK Government and the Commonwealth Advisory Body on Sport (CABOS) and draws upon the recommendations and outcomes of meetings including 9CSMM (2018), the Ministerial Forum on Sport and COVID 19 (2020) and the Senior Officials Meeting on Sport for Development and Peace (SOMSDP) which was held in November 2021.
It will also draw from recommendations made at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Kigali, Rwanda from 20- 25 June 2022.
