The Commonwealth Secretary-General’s Innovation for Sustainable Development Awards aim to recognise and celebrate the contribution that innovators in the public, private and voluntary sectors across the Commonwealth are making to progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Location: Nairobi, Kenya
Time: 15.00 – 17.00 Eastern Africa Time
The winners of the Commonwealth Secretary-General’s Innovation for Sustainable Development Awards will be announced on 27 November in Nairobi during the inaugural Commonwealth Edition of Kenya Innovation Week 2023.
During the ceremony, all 15 award winners – three from each Commonwealth region – will receive a trophy, a certificate, and a £3,000 cash prize for their ground-breaking innovations across five categories.
Each category is structured around the five pillars of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace, and Partnership.
The award ceremony will be attended by senior government officials, development specialists, tech leaders, philanthropists, and innovators from the 56 Commonwealth member countries.
Launched by the Commonwealth Secretary-General, the Rt Hon Patricia Scotland KC, in 2019, the awards recognise innovations from Commonwealth countries that contribute to one or more of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
This is the third biennial edition of the awards, with the previous ceremonies held in 2019 and 2021.
Entries closed on 15 October 2023.
