On November 18, the Commonwealth will host two events as part of the annual London Global Cancer Week and put a spotlight on one of our most devastating non-communicable diseases.
- We will engage with governments and decision makers to identify effective policies and solutions for a more coordinated Commonwealth approach to fighting cancer.
- We will give cancer survivors from across the Commonwealth, the opportunity to tell their story, challenge myths and stigmas, and address related issues such as mental health and after-care.
- We will listen to the perspectives of leading global experts, researchers and activists.
- We will explore and highlight critically important prevention and treatment strategies, such as healthy living initiatives, vaccination, and early screening.
- We will advocate for better funding, and global equity in cancer care so that we can improve outcomes in all Commonwealth countries.
Session 1 (closed event - invite only)
Themed Achieving Equitable Solutions for the Screening and Prevention of Cervical Cancer, our first event will review progress made towards cervical cancer elimination goals and focus on innovations and new policies to improve the screening and prevention of cervical cancer.

- Dr Joyce Banda, Former President of Malawi
- Dr Princess Nothemba (Nono) Simelela, Assistant Director-General for Strategic Programmatic Priorities, World Health Organisation;
- Dr Miriam Mutebi, Chair of the Commonwealth’s Taskforce on Global Cancer Elimination, Breast Surgical Oncologist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya.
Session 1 will be a closed event by invitation only.
Session 2
Under the theme, Elevating the Needs of Young People Experiencing Cancer in the Commonwealth, event 2 will highlight the unique challenges of young cancer survivors, from their diagnosis to after-care, and focus on what can be done to improve cancer care for young people.
